Libertarian Party Candidate - Teh Suck
Bob Barr won the nomination for the Libertarian Party candidate. I am thoroughly disappointed. This guy is an ex-drug warrior and tried to pass an amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
These are not the principles of libertarians and I do not see how he will get passed these past transgressions. The only good that can come from this is that he has the name and clout to pull a lot of votes away from the presumed Republican candidate, John McCain. Barr will get lots of following from the hardcore social conservatives that still believe in limited government. This will leave McCain with just the neo-con crowd to vote for him.
That leaves us with Obama being able to beat McCain in a 3 way battle. While I disagree with many of Obama's stances on the role of government and individualism vs. collectivism, I do believe he is the best candidate we have left running.
As usual, he will probably fail me on many occasions once in office but I am going to remain hopeful and if Bob Barr can play a part in helping him win, I guess I am all for it.
I do have to wonder what direction the Libertarian Party will move and if it is back to principles of freedom, can they recover from picking this man to represent them?
