There are very few albums that I can call masterpieces. Off of the top of my head here are a few that I have held to this high standard over the years:
- Abby Road - The Beatles
- Graceland - Paul Simon
- Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
- 10 - Pearl Jam
You get the idea. To make this standard, an album has to meet these requirements:
- Excellent Songwriting
- Excellent Mixing/Production
- Masterful ordering of the songs on the album
- The intangibles such as feeling, mood, meaning, etc.
I can honestly say that I can add another one to the list. This one may surprise a few people. I have absolutely no idea how this one managed to stay off of my radar for so long.
Sean Mullins - 9th Ward Pickin' Parlor is officially on my shortlist of masterpieces.
It is well written, the ordering flows perfect from one song to another, their is soul and feeling to every song, the production is top notch as is the song writing. Here is an example of one of the more up tempo songs on the album:
Some wakeup music for you Voxers!
Check out the awesome lyrics to this song. The melodic alt.country music is the perfect place to nest Clem's voice.
Enjoy!
