I took the scooter out for a short ride today. I had a great little ride and discovered an awesome little market/deli. It is called Griffin Family Market and Deli. It is way the hell out in the country down Central Pike past Mt. Juliet, Tn. It looks like an old gas station and convenience store but smells like heaven.
At this little place, much like other little southern markets, they take pride in making their own products. From the smoking of the meats to the half moon fried fruit pies, everything is done there.
When I walked in, I saw the normal shelves of packaged candies & snacks and the refrigerated beverage cases with assorted sports drinks, sodas and beer. Behind the counter is a full(and very well-equipped) kitchen. There is a small buffet-type counter and a cooler with freshly made foods from the kitchen. In the back of the store, the owner's children were sitting around on folded tables and chairs stringing popcorn for the Christmas tree.
I grabbed myself a fried apple pie and a 6 pack of Miller High Life, loaded up the scooter as the country born and bred gentleman in knee-high boots --fresh in from a cattle run-- tried to figure out what the hell I was riding and just how in the hell I was going to get the beer home on it, and I hit the winding road, relaxed and ready to share my story.
I started my day out on my scooter. I headed over to the scooter shop to dick around when the owner grabbed the phone. I could tell that the conversation was about me but I could not figure out who the hell would call the shop looking for me.
Well, it turns out that Chuck Mead was shooting a music video for his upcoming solo release. For those that do not
know, Chuck is one of the co-founders/guitarist/co-lead singer of the alternative country band BR-549. Ok, back on track - Chuck is a scooterist. He rides an old Honda Passport C-70 pictured to the right. And his music video features scooterists riding around town doing various choreographed shit. Well, since it was cold, a lot of the scooterists didn't show and they saw my bike outside of the shop and called James at ESS to ask if I would come help out.Oila, I was now part of a music video here in Nashville. The name of the song is "I wish it was Friday". If you are unfamiliar with Chuck's swinging country music style, check out his myspace site. The song is on the site. I prefer some of his old BR-549 stuff better but it is still decent when comparing it to other drivel coming out of Music Row these days.
Other than the cold, it really was a great day and I had a lot of fun. Chuck is a naturally funny and down to earth guy. He cracked jokes with everyone most of the day. He also bought us drinks all night at 3Crow. =)
Check out the old band's tribute to Betty Page:
What the fuck-stumps? 51 in a 30? Is he goofy? I was still in 3rd gear and had just pulled off of a red light when he clocked me.
On a side note: I am glad that all of the violent and property crime has been solved in Nashville so that they can dedicate SO many officers to speeding violations. I have to go through, at least, 3 speed traps every morning on my way to work. 2 have as many as 8 officers working the one trap. Good ol' gubment dollars at work there. I guess the priority is to focus on the crimes that bring in cash like drug busts, DUI's and speeding.
They should just change the slogan from "Protect and Serve" to "Create(Crime) and Collect(Cash)".
Well, it looks like we are set to get my scooter within the next 10 days. Sym officially announced it today. It does have a few differences then the pre-release info. Firstly, it has had a name change from the "Vogue" to the "Fiddle II". It appears that it will have 12 inch wheels instead of 10 inch(a big plus for me). It also looks like the gas mileage is going to be better than expected. They are saying 105mpg instead of the previously mentioned 80mpg. I am so excited and about to drive my wife bonkers talking about it.
I am dying to get my scooter. I ordered it over a month ago(yes -- ordered). The local scooter shop is so overwhelmed with the scooter boom that they are having to take deposits on future bikes. I finished my motorcycle/scooter safety course and passed the exams last weekend(btw, it was a freakin blast).
I am now ready to start riding the road with a bike but as of yet, I am sans scooter. The local scooter shop is great and has told me that they think it will be in next week.
Here is what it will look like:
